Synopsis

Published in the United States by DC Comics, this final chapter concludes Brian Michael Bendis and Nick Derington's cosmic Batman: Universe miniseries. The mind of the Dark Knight is trapped inside a White Lantern Ring while his vulnerable physical body remains stranded on Earth. To protect the ring from permanently falling into the hands of the immortal tyrant Vandal Savage, Batman's consciousness is violently catapulted across fractured space-time anomalies. During this frantic, cross-era chronal chase, the narrative shatters across legendary points in DC continuity, dropping Batman directly into a silent, mid-air temporal projection encounter with the Rittmeister Hans von Hammer (Enemy Ace), who is piloting his signature crimson Fokker Dr.I triplane over the war-torn battlefields of World War I.

Collector Notes

For American comic shops and direct-market collectors, this standard single issue represents the very first time the climax was available in the traditional, standalone 32-page format. For Hans von Hammer chroniclers, this specific entry stands as a monumental contemporary milestone. It preserves a gorgeous, dialogue-free modern panel sequence that functions as a direct love-letter homage to the character's legacy—specifically referencing the classic Bronze Age team-up from Detective Comics #404 ("Ghost of the Killer Skies")—now reconfigured for the modern back-issue collector market.
