Synopsis

Von Hammer meets his match in the skies in the form of St. George, a British ace whose skill and nerve equal his own. Their aerial duel is less a fight than a conversation, two professionals testing one another, aware that only one will descend. The gravity of the title is earned by the final pages.

Collector Notes

By the late 1960s Kanigher had refined the Enemy Ace formula to a near-perfect machine: introduce a worthy opponent, let Kubert's draftsmanship carry the combat, and let the silence after it carry the meaning. St. George is among the more memorable of the British aces von Hammer encounters during the SSWS run.
