Synopsis

Published in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil by EBAL (Editora Brasil-América), this oversized holiday special completed EBAL's foundational presentation of Hans von Hammer to South American audiences. Printed in a massive tabloid dimension (approximately 26 cm x 35 cm), this luxury anthology compiled three foundational, consecutive Silver Age Enemy Ace stories translated into Portuguese: "O Ás Inimigo" (Enemy Ace / originally from Showcase #57), "A Morte é um Pássaro Vermelho" (Death is a Red Bird / originally from Showcase #58) and "O Caçador e o Ás" (The Hunter and the Ace / originally from Star-Spangled War Stories #139).

Collector Notes

The entire issue was printed in high-contrast, dramatic black-and-white, stripping the traditional American color palettes to put a heavy visual spotlight on Joe Kubert's kinetic ink lines. The massive canvas size amplified the raw speed of the dogfights, the intricate detail of the Fokker Triplane cockpits, and the profound psychological exhaustion written across von Hammer's face. Like other EBAL annuals, the book features completely unique, custom-painted cover artwork created exclusively by Brazilian studio illustrators, making it a highly sought-after artifact for global comic book collectors.
