Synopsis

Appearing on page 15, the Enemy Ace narrative stands as one of the most tragic and psychological tales from the original run. During a brutal dogfight over the front lines, Hans von Hammer outmaneuvers a trio of Allied fighters, but his wingmen are killed and his damaged red Fokker Triplane crashes behind enemy lines on a snow-covered mountain. Stranded in the wilderness, von Hammer is forced to freeze, hallucinate, and slowly trek back toward the German lines while manually carrying his personal belongings and mourning the deaths of his fallen comrades.

Collector Notes

Unlike standard monthly comics, this issue was published as a pocket-sized (4⅞" x 6⅝") Blue Ribbon Digest. Because these books were printed on low-grade, highly acidic pulp paper and glued into a tight square-bound pocketbook spine, they are highly fragile. High-grade copies (CGC 9.0 or better) are incredibly scarce because the spines split easily when opened flat.
