Synopsis
While returning to his family castle where his elderly father lies dying, Hans von Hammer enters a chaotic high-altitude dogfight. When a defenseless British pilot signals he is out of ammunition, the Rittmeister honorably lets him fly away—only for a ruthless new German squadron replacement, Bruno Kessel, to shoot the helpless enemy down in cold blood. Disgusted by this murder, von Hammer beats Kessel at the airfield, sparking a private duel of honor between them for the next morning. Tragedy strikes the family lineage when an invading Allied aircraft bombs the estate grounds, instantly killing Baron Otto von Hammer and forcing the 'Hammer of Hell' to absorb his father's death with no time to grieve before his scheduled morning duel.
