Swamp Thing
The Brothers in Arms story deepens its roots in Enemy Ace's history as the genealogical connection between von Hammer and Anton Arcane, through Anais Arcane, Hans's cousin and Abby's grandmother, is fully established. Von Hammer's wartime world becomes the origin point for one of DC horror's defining family histories, linking the skies of 1917 to the darkness of the present.
The most substantial Enemy Ace appearance in the Swamp Thing run and one of the more ambitious recontextualisations of the character in comics history. By making von Hammer a blood relation of the Arcane dynasty, Veitch connected two of DC's most morally complex characters across decades and genres. Tom Mandrake's expressionistic art is well-suited to material operating at the border between war story and horror.
