Synopsis

Booster Gold is hurled backward through a temporal rift and materializes behind enemy lines in World War I France. Without his robotic companion Skeets to guide him, Booster panics during an aerial assault and uses his energy gauntlets to disable the engine of a low-flying Fokker Dr.I Triplane, unwittingly shooting down Hans von Hammer. When German interrogators begin brutally torturing Booster's companion Cyrus, the now-grounded Enemy Ace enters the room. Disgusted by his countrymen's dishonorable treatment of defenseless prisoners of war, von Hammer turns on his own military unit, slaughters the torturers, frees Booster and Cyrus, and points them toward an escape route.

Collector Notes

Part of DC's company-wide "Faces of Evil" publishing initiative, this is the first issue of any Booster Gold volume where Booster does not appear on the front cover. Dan Jurgens' cover art features a massive close-up of Enemy Ace unloading his twin Spandau machine guns directly at the reader, one of the most striking Enemy Ace cover appearances outside his own titles. Jurgens' script captures von Hammer's code with precision: the Enemy Ace who will kill without hesitation in honorable combat will not tolerate the torture of defenseless men.
